Guide to Cleaning and Care

Here at MyGirlConnectiion we love our toys! We have our personal favorite that we love to use, and our favorite we love to recommend, (yes you can love a masturbator, even without man bits). Whether you search high and low until you found your perfect toy companion or it was love at first sight, we don’t want to think about a day without our fun pleasure friends, unfortunately the hard truth is that no toy lasts forever.

Many factors that used to degrade and destroy toys are no longer a threat. Toy companies are taking steps to make sure their toys are being made better. With standards of quality improving, toys are more durable, formulated with body safe material that is non- porous, and vibrators that are rechargeable instead of using batteries. The improvement of toys has been a huge step, but we still need to do our part to take care of and prolong the life of our toys, and also protect our bodies from bacterial and viral infections.

Before using toys:

  • Inspect toys for any deformities or imperfections such as tears in silicone, cyberskin and rubber toys.

  • If your toy is made of a hard material such as plastic, or glass run your finger over any seams you can find to insure they aren’t rough or sharp. rough and sharp edges can cause small cuts in the vaginal or anal canal that can become infected or cause pain.

  • If your toy is Rechargeable, Fully charge before use, If your toy is battery operated, put fresh batteries in the toy.

  • Check battery pack and compartment for loose pieces.

Interchanging Holes: Many toys can be used both vaginally and anally. If you are a toys owner or going to purchase a toy that you want to use with both holes we recommend a toy that is either made of glass, metal, or medical grade silicone; these toys are non porous and will not transfer unwanted bacteria from the anus to the vagina. If your toy is made out of a rubber material you will need to clean your toy with a toy cleaner or anti-bacterial soap and warm water after the first hole and before the second. Often time stopping in the moment to clean a toy is not ideal, you can place a condom over your toy, and remove before the second placement to stay protected from unwanted bacteria. You toy should still be washed throughly after use before storing.

Sharing toys with you partner: We always recommend that everyone have their own set of toys for their body, but sharing or using your toys with your intimate partner can be done safely. Much like interchanging holes, if you are going to share toys with your partner, select toys made out of a non porous material. Toys should be washed properly between partners and or a new condom places on a porous toy before each use. This helps prevent bacteria and virus from spreading through toy use during play.

Cleaning your toys: Cleaning your toys after its used, and before storing it is the most important thing you can do for your toy, and your sex bit health. The best, easiest and fastest way to clean your toys is with a toy cleaner. Toy cleaners are anti-bacterial and some like Swiss Navy toy cleaner are anti-viral and fungal. They are infused with ingredients that not only clean toys, And kill harmful bacteria, but also help protect the integrity of the toy material. Toy cleaners are typically either a spray form or a cleaning wipe. Read the directions before using toy cleaner, as they vary between brands.

If a toy is non vibrating, made out of glass, stainless steel, or 100% medical grade silicone material, the toy can be boiled to disinfect and cleanse. Just bring water to boil, carefully drop the toy into the boiling water, and boil from 5-10 minutes. Remove the toy with caution, your toys will be HOT HOT HOT!! Let your toy air dry and cool completely after boiling before storing. We love letting our toys air dry on a towel or cloth so that lent and fibers do not cling to the outside of the toy. (non-vibrating metal, glass and 100% medical grade silicone are often dishwasher safe if washed on the top rack) If you prefer the dishwasher method, make sure the washer is empty and clean before using, do not use detergent, and inspect toy after cleaning cycle.

Properly Storing Toys: The way you store your toys can be just as important as cleaning them, when toys are stored properly the will stay clean and safe until their next play date. Some important storing tips are:

  • Clean toys after each use, and before putting them away for storage.

  • Inspect your toy after removing them from storage, and before use.

  • Make sure your toy is completely dry before putting away, wet toys can produce mold and mildew.

  • Keep rubber and silicone toys safe! These materials, ESPECIALLY rubber toys, will react to one another, rubber can become sticky and melty in appearance. To keep toy materials from touching you can wrap in a cloth or silk toy pouches and other storage methods. If your toy did not come with a pouch they can be found on our toy accessories page. (if your toy has had a chemical reaction to other rubber toys, it means it is not 100% medical grade and should be replaced.)

  • Remove all batteries from battery operated toys before storing. Batteries can leak and cause corrosion in the battery pack. Corrosion can cause the toy to stop working or malfunction, and no one wants any battery acid that has leaked to be around intimate ares.

  • Store toy in a cool dark area, out of direct sunlight. Sunlight can cause toys to melt, discolor, and even dry toy material out. Storing toys in extreme cold can also effect some plastic and silicone material, and should be avoided.

  • You will want to use warm to hot water when cleaning toys. Never fully submerge electrical toys in water during cleaning, (especially battery powered) water can find its way inside and end all vibration.)

  • Do Not use Alcohol or bleach to clean your toys.

  • Anti-bacterial soap and water may be used instead of toy cleaner. Make sure to completely rinse soap off of any toys. If a film appears on toy material after drying, rinse again very well before putting away.

In Conclusion: Toys can be an investment in the sexual relationship you have with yourself and partners. Many brands are taking the step in improving the quality of their products, though this can cause toys to increase in price, the higher quality material is safer for the body and can last a lifetime when properly taken care of.

Take care of your toys, and they will take care of you!!!
